The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 4th that it found no anomalies during the first on-site security inspection conducted targeting KT and LG Uplus following the SK Telecom hacking incident. However, it noted that there are still additional items to check, so it could not conclude that there are 'no issues.'
The Ministry of Science and ICT released an explanatory report that day, stating, 'We are conducting emergency on-site inspections for KT and LG Uplus,' and added, 'So far, no anomalies have been found, but the inspections have not yet concluded, and we have not reached a conclusion of 'no issues.'' This corrected reports from some media claiming that 'the government investigation team concluded that there were no problems after examining KT and LG Uplus.'
Since the 23rd of last month, the Ministry of Science and ICT has been deploying an on-site inspection team composed of security experts from the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) to the two telecommunications companies for direct investigations. Inspections are also underway for major platform corporations such as Naver, Kakao, Coupang, and Baedal Minjok.
