Naver Cloud announced on the 23rd that it has signed a memorandum of understanding for the joint development of a Thai-language-based large language model (LLM) and AI agents with the Thai AI and cloud platform corporation 'Siam AI Cloud (SIAM.AI Cloud·Siam AI)'.
Siam AI is a leading corporation driving AI transformation in Thailand. The company plans to intensify its sovereign AI expansion in the Southeast Asian market based on this collaboration.
The signing ceremony was attended by Naver Chairman Lee Hae-jin and CEO Choi Soo-yeon, who discussed strategies for expanding sovereign AI business in Southeast Asia and entering the global market.
First, the two companies plan to develop a Thai-language specialized LLM that can be applied to actual services by the end of this year, based on their respective LLM construction and operational experience, vast Thai-language data, and GPU (graphics processing unit) infrastructure. Based on this, they will unveil a tourism-specialized AI agent that meets high demand in Thailand.
Subsequently, they plan to expand their business into various industries that require AI, such as healthcare, public services, and academia, by securing a lineup of models of various sizes. Naver Cloud stated that it will share its technological expertise and support Thailand in developing and operating AI models and applications independently.
The memorandum of understanding was conducted at the NVIDIA Cloud Partner Summit held in Taiwan. Naver Cloud and Siam AI attended as the only partners from South Korea and Thailand, respectively.
Naver Cloud noted, 'Since last year, we have been closely collaborating with NVIDIA to concretize a viable business model for building sovereign AI, and this collaboration with Siam AI is also a result of that effort.'
