SK Telecom's Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) subsidiary has also experienced a phenomenon of subscriber attrition since the 'hacking incident.'
According to the telecommunications industry on the 23rd, SK Telecom Link lost approximately 44,000 subscribers from the 26th of last month to the 20th of this month. Before the hacking of SK Telecom, there were often increases of around 100 subscribers per day, but after the hacking incident occurred on April 25, the trend began to turn downward. The scale of attrition started at 230 subscribers and gradually increased to about 1,700 on the 26th of last month and about 4,200 on the 28th. Afterward, the subscriber attrition that had been maintained at a high level of around 3,000 per day fell below 1,000 on the 16th of this month.
In the telecommunications industry, it is analyzed that this subscriber attrition is common not only to SK Telecom Link but also to all MVNOs using the SK Telecom network. As a result, among MVNOs, voices are also emerging that SK Telecom should compensate for expenses such as 'SIM card replacement delivery costs' incurred due to this hacking incident. SK Telecom stated that it is discussing support for expenses to MVNOs.
