Microsoft (MS) plans to reduce 3% of its total workforce through restructuring.
On the 13th (local time), MS noted, "We are continuing to implement organizational restructuring necessary for success in a rapidly changing market environment." This workforce reduction will be carried out across all institutional sectors, job levels, and regions.
As of the end of June last year, MS had approximately 228,000 employees. About 7,000 are expected to be included in this reduction, which is the largest since the 2023 restructuring that targeted 10,000 employees.
MS has been conducting small-scale restructurings every year based on performance, including last January. However, the company stated that this reduction is unrelated to performance and is intended "to reduce unnecessary management layers."
In the first quarter, MS recorded a revenue of $70.07 billion (approximately 99 trillion won) and a net profit of $3.46 (approximately 4,890 won) per share. The day after the earnings report, the stock price surged nearly 8%. On the 12th, the stock closed at $449.26, marking its highest price this year and nearing the all-time high of $467.56 recorded in July last year.
