The Game Rating and Administration Committee found that the number of illegal activities related to games, such as private servers, illegal exchanges, and proxy gaming, significantly increased compared to the previous year.
According to the Game Rating and Administration Committee on the 13th, the number of administrative actions related to illegal games from January to April reached 22,236, a 133.7% increase compared to the same period last year (9,513 cases). The committee noted that this result is analyzed as an increase in post-management efficiency due to organizational restructuring and the enhancement of the smart post-management system, realizing data-driven administration.
Following the disclosure of information on probability-based items, the Game Rating and Administration Committee monitored a total of 2,105 cases from January to April, correcting 302 cases where probability indications were inappropriate. Additionally, it added that it is collaborating with relevant organizations such as the Korea Association of Game Industry, the Korea Consumer Agency, and the Korea Game Policy Self-Regulatory Organization to enhance compliance.
Regarding illegal gambling PC bangs, joint crackdowns totaling 67 cases will be conducted in 2025 in collaboration with the police, and support was provided for 501 police crackdowns. Furthermore, training on enforcement techniques to strengthen the capability of front-line police officers was conducted for 207 individuals over 16 sessions. The Game Rating and Administration Committee plans to continue regular concentrated crackdowns on illegal gambling establishments in cooperation with 18 police agencies and 259 police stations nationwide.
Game Committee Chairman Seo Taek-geon said, "To create a sustainable gaming environment, we plan to strengthen cooperation among game developers, users, and policymakers, and continuously operate a data-driven post-management system."
