The National Intelligence Service announced on the 17th that it has identified an additional seven fake websites created by a Chinese media promotion company using the names of domestic media outlets.
The sites identified this time are operated by the Chinese promotion company "Quanmeishe," and they are directly using the names of actual domestic media outlets, including Seoul Shinmun, Jeju Ilbo, and Maeil Shinmun. In particular, it has been revealed that these sites have registered their domains overseas in countries such as China, the United States, and Singapore.
The names of the stolen media outlets and their website addresses have been confirmed as follows: Seoul Shinmun (news.fiinformation.com, registered in China), Jeju Ilbo (market.ecomweeks.com, China), Daegu News (daegunews.net, the United States), Maeil Shinmun (kr.yuemengmuye.com, Singapore), Seoul Daily News (seouldailynews.net, the United States), Blue News (kr.nodiwa.com, Singapore), and Interactive News (kr.yujiacomm.com, Singapore).
The National Intelligence Service noted that, although no problematic content has been confirmed to be disseminated by these sites yet, as overseas companies are continuing to engage in deceptive activities that exploit the credibility of domestic media, it will strengthen monitoring.
Previously, the National Intelligence Service disclosed in two instances that Chinese promotion companies, including "Haimai" and "Haixun," had been operating over 200 websites disguised as domestic media such as Seoul Press last year. These sites have unlawfully copied articles from domestic media outlets and have also posted promotional content about the Chinese government's COVID-19 response achievements.
