SK Telecom announced on the 6th that Emart has joined the private corporation data cooperation alliance 'GranData' initiative.
Participating companies in the existing 'GranData' initiative include SK Telecom, SK Broadband, Shinhan Card, Korea Credit Bureau (KCB), and Kakao Mobility.
Participants in 'GranData,' including SK Telecom, held a signing ceremony with Emart on the 3rd at the SK T-Tower in Euljiro, Seoul, to pledge their commitment to data cooperation and shared business introductions alongside data utilization methods and cases.
'GranData' is a private data integration initiative launched in 2021 by SK Telecom, Shinhan Card, and KCB to support decision-making based on data in public and private sectors, as well as to enable efficient use of private data.
The data held by participating corporations will be anonymized or pseudonymized and utilized for welfare and marketing programs of public institutions and private corporations.
As the demand for data, including AI modeling, expands in the era of artificial intelligence (AI), the 'GranData' initiative is gaining momentum.
The newly joined Emart is expected to provide membership consumption information from all merchants of Shinsegae Point, utilized by 24 million members, along with data on Emart products.
Additionally, SK Telecom announced that it plans to collaborate with the data cloud company 'Snowflake' to provide data sets from 'GranData' via its supply partner SPH to Snowflake's data trading platform 'Data Marketplace.'
Park Jun, head of SK Telecom's AI Intelligence Business Division, noted, "Data is the 'oil' of the 21st century, and particularly, GranData presents many opportunities for use in various fields such as social welfare and marketing," and said, "We will continue to increase cooperation to contribute to the development of the domestic data industry."
