On 4th at approximately 11:22 a.m., when the Constitutional Court dismissed President Yoon Suk-yeol, a temporary disruption occurred in KakaoTalk.
A Kakao official noted, "Due to a momentary surge in traffic, some users experienced delays in message delivery, but the service has now been normalized through emergency response." On that day, both the mobile and PC versions of KakaoTalk encountered errors where messages were not sent or logins failed for about 5 minutes.
Kakao anticipated such disruptions and secured traffic capacity 3 to 10 times higher than usual; however, it appears that a sudden surge in traffic caused a temporary service disruption.
Kakao stated that it would immediately address the issue and plans to continue additional responses to provide users with smooth service.
Meanwhile, it was reported that Naver, which secured up to 10 times its usual traffic capacity that day, did not experience any service disruptions. An industry official remarked, "Given the precedent where traffic surged on Dec. 3 last year when President Yoon declared a state of emergency, it seems they prepared thoroughly."
