Samsung Electronics announced on the 1st that it appointed Roh Tae-moon, head of the Mobile Experience (MX) division (president) and head of the design management center, as the acting head of the institutional sector for Device Experience (DX). On the same day, Samsung Electronics conducted a recurring personnel reshuffle, including the vacant positions of the head of the DX institutional sector, chair of the Quality Innovation Committee, and head of the Home Appliance (DA) division, as well as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the MX division.
President Roh will concurrently serve as the acting head of the DX institutional sector and the head of the MX division as well as chair of the Quality Innovation Committee. Choi Won-jun, head of the MX division's development team (president), has been appointed as the COO of the MX division. President Choi will also concurrently hold the positions of head of the MX division's development team and head of the global operations team along with the COO role. The head of the DA division will be Kim Cheol-ki, head of strategic marketing for the MX division under Samsung Electronics.
Samsung Electronics noted, “By assigning the acting head of the DX institutional sector to the head of the MX division, we aim to stabilize the organization early and promote business innovation by appointing a sales and marketing expert as the head of the DA division.”
President Roh is a smartphone expert who led the development of the Galaxy series and created the “Galaxy myth.” He was born in 1968, graduated from Yonsei University with a degree in electronic engineering and from Pohang University of Science and Technology with a master’s degree in electrical and electronic engineering, and joined Samsung Electronics' wireless division in 1997. He has built nearly 30 years of experience in the wireless division, serving as the head of the innovative product development team, head of the product strategy team, and head of the development team. Since 2020, he has been leading the MX division (formerly the wireless division), and since 2022, he has also held the position of head of the design management center.
President Choi, born in 1970, completed both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering at Seoul National University and obtained his master’s and doctorate degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University in the United States. After working exclusively on wireless chipsets at Qualcomm, he joined Samsung Electronics in 2016 and has led the development of the Galaxy series while taking on roles such as head of the next-generation product development team and head of the strategic product development team in the MX division. Based on his expertise in the MX business, President Choi plans to oversee business operations as the COO of the MX division and strengthen the global competitiveness of the mobile business.
Vice President Kim, born in 1968, joined Samsung Automotive, where he was responsible for component technology and quality tasks, and has experience in sales for all products, including smartphones, home appliances, and televisions.
Samsung Electronics stated, “Through this personnel reshuffle, we plan to minimize the leadership vacuum in the DX institutional sector and ensure that there are no disruptions in strengthening global competitiveness and preparing for the future.”
