The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 30th that it will discover innovative services based on on-device artificial intelligence (AI) using domestically produced AI semiconductors and will embark on large-scale demonstrations at the city level.
The Ministry of Science and ICT will conduct a solicitation for projects for this year's on-device AI service demonstration program until the end of next month. A total of 8.55 billion won will be provided to three selected consortiums. On-device AI is an AI technology that can process AI algorithms and models directly on devices without internet connection, offering advantages in terms of fast service, data security, and user optimization.
Through this project, three service target areas will be selected, including areas with transportation inconveniences, crime-prone areas, and remote island regions, and CCTV analysis and drone control utilizing on-device AI with domestically produced AI semiconductors will be developed. Additionally, a project to demonstrate AI agent services will be promoted by equipping multi-modal and generative AI-capable domestic AI semiconductors in robots and kiosks.
Park Tae-wan, director of the Information and Communication Industry Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, "On-device AI is a key area that will open new markets for domestically produced AI semiconductors, and we will support the discovery of innovative AI services that can respond quickly to disaster situations and so on."
