The global short-form video platform TikTok announced on the 27th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Jeju Special Self-Governing Province (hereinafter referred to as Jeju) to revitalize the province's cultural and tourism content. Through this agreement, TikTok and Jeju will collaborate to strengthen the content competitiveness necessary for Jeju to leap forward as a global cultural and tourism hub and to elevate its economy.

The signing ceremony for the memorandum of understanding, held at the Jeju Provincial Office, was attended by Jeju Governor Oh Young-hoon and Nobuaki Yasunaga, who oversees global public policy for TikTok in Northeast Asia. Prior to this, a lecture was arranged for Jeju Provincial Office officials to enhance their understanding of TikTok. Director General Yoon Hye-rin of TikTok Korea introduced basic knowledge on effectively utilizing TikTok in the public sector and various examples of TikTok's use in the public sector around the world, while Partnership Manager Yang Soo-young explained TikTok’s efforts to build a safe platform environment.

Under this agreement, TikTok and Jeju will collaborate on ▲ TikTok utilization training for public officials ▲ video promotion related to Jeju’s policy agenda and major tourist attractions ▲ creator collaboration for Jeju promotional campaigns ▲ expansion of the Jeju TikTok platform and cooperation on public campaigns ▲ support for region-specific content production and promotion linked to local events. The agreement aims to develop a collaborative model for sustainable regional promotion and tourism revitalization.

TikTok will support educational programs to enhance the content production capabilities of Jeju Provincial Office officials. Starting in April, TikTok utilization training for provincial officials will be conducted in connection with the curriculum of the Public Policy Training Institute, and methods for creating effective content will be taught through the 'Innovation Leader Training Course' for 6th grade public officials and the 'Core Talent Training Course' for 7th grade public officials. This program will be held four times a year to allow new public officials to participate. Starting in May, TikTok marketing training will be provided to enhance the digital marketing capabilities of small businesses through the Small Business Support Management Center.

Governor Oh Young-hoon emphasized, "As the MZ generation of 2030 leads Jeju's tourism industry, a new marketing strategy that considers the next generation is needed," adding, "The partnership with TikTok is part of efforts for Jeju to reach a global level beyond the geographic scope of a local government."

Nobuaki Yasunaga noted, "This agreement will be a starting point for a new challenge to more effectively communicate with future generations by integrating Jeju's culture and tourism content," and stated, "We will continuously strive to make a positive impact on society through policy campaigns conducted in collaboration with Jeju."
