Naver Webtoon announced on the 27th that it has joined the global copyright protection organization "ACE" as the first webtoon and web novel platform and the first member in Korea.
ACE is a copyright protection organization under the Motion Picture Association (MPA) and is one of the most influential groups worldwide in responding to the distribution of illegal content. More than 50 major global media and entertainment corporations, including Amazon, Apple TV Plus, Netflix, Paramount Global, Sony Pictures, Universal Studios, Walt Disney Studios, and Warner Bros. Discovery, are active members.
To gain approval for membership in ACE, media and entertainment industries must demonstrate global influence, sufficient resources and efforts to respond to illegal content, and other criteria. Based on this, the board of directors will decide on the approval of membership.
Naver Webtoon explained that its first membership in ACE signifies the growing influence of webtoons in the entertainment industry and represents international recognition of its efforts and achievements in responding to illegal content. They noted that through ACE's global network and expertise and resources related to responding to illegal content, they will continue to take more proactive and robust action against illegal sites.
