The Korea Communications Commission announced on the 25th that it has developed an 'artificial intelligence (AI) based malicious message blocking feature' in collaboration with the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) and Samsung Electronics.
This development is part of the comprehensive measures against illegal spam announced in November last year to prevent various damages caused by malicious messages, including illegal loans, adult content, and gambling.
It is an AI-based technology that automatically blocks messages containing suspicious content on smartphones. It categorizes and blocks illegal spam messages that include sender numbers deemed to be malicious and risky links (URLs).
Samsung Electronics plans to initially apply the blocking feature to the Galaxy S25 series and to gradually implement it on existing models through updates of the Android 15 operating system (One UI 7).
Since September last year, the Korea Communications Commission, KISA, and Samsung Electronics have been developing this feature. Users can selectively unblock or check blocked malicious messages, messages blocked by AI, and messages they have blocked in case they need to receive automatically blocked messages.
Shin Young-kyu, the director of the broadcasting and communication user policy bureau of the Korea Communications Commission, noted, 'With the introduction of this feature by Samsung Electronics, illegal spam blocking, which has been performed by mobile communication companies, has been further strengthened,' and 'We will continue to create an environment where the public can be assured against illegal spam or phishing and smishing through close cooperation in the future.'
