It has been reported that China’s YMTC will also implement a price increase for NAND flash memory, following the United States' SanDisk.
On the 20th, the Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that "Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are also expected to follow suit." YMTC's retail brand, Zhitai, notified distributors that prices will rise by at least 10% starting next month. Prior to this, there were reports that SanDisk would raise NAND prices by more than 10% starting on the 1st of next month.
Taiwan’s DigiTimes reported that Micron Technology also informed customers earlier this month that the prices for new orders would rise by an average of 11%, adding that Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are expected to follow.
Micron, Samsung Electronics, and SK hynix undertook production cuts in the second half of last year to curb the decline in NAND prices. Additionally, there has been a significant increase in NAND demand due to the rapid advancement of AI applications. Moreover, the recovery in demand for smartphones and personal computers (PCs) as a result of China’s product replacement policy also played a role.
SanDisk pointed to rising expenses due to tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump as one of the factors behind the price increase.
