Hancomwith, a subsidiary of Hancom Group, announced on the 20th that it will begin supplying an artificial intelligence (AI)-based facial recognition solution called "Hancom Auth" as part of its expansion into new security business.
Hancomwith signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to supply "Hancom Auth" with "NS Smart," a company specializing in hospital automation solutions and hardware. The introduction of "Hancom Auth" on "NS Smart"'s hospital unmanned machines (kiosks) will enable non-face-to-face identity verification and user identification, allowing patients to enjoy a safer and more convenient medical environment. Additionally, the simplified authentication service utilizing facial recognition technology is expected to prevent fraudulent claims and enhance the soundness of health insurance while contributing to reducing the expense of issuing medical cards in hospitals.
"Hancom Auth" is a facial recognition-based authentication technology that can be flexibly applied to match clients' service environments. Notably, it provides high security through a passive liveness verification function that is the only one in South Korea to have obtained Level 2 certification in the facial presentation attack detection (PAD) test conducted by iBeta, detecting advanced spoofing methods such as 3D printers, resin, and latex masks. It is expected to generate facial information patterns and confirm the validity of face recognition, creating a secure digital authentication environment that will be widely utilized in various industries including finance, public services, and healthcare.
Hancom made a strategic investment last year in the Spanish AI biometrics company FacePhi, becoming the second-largest shareholder. Through this, it secured exclusive business rights to sell FacePhi's solutions under the Hancom brand in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, with Hancomwith handling domestic sales.
Kim Jin-woo, CEO of NS Smart, said, "We will establish a foundation to enhance the convenience of identity verification procedures by implementing facial recognition solutions not only in hospitals but also in various fields."
Song Sang-yeob, CEO of Hancomwith, said, "The application scope of facial recognition technology is rapidly expanding across all industrial sectors," and noted, "Through continuous technological cooperation and leveraging Hancomwith's competitive position in the domestic security market, we will increase our market share in facial recognition."
