Commission on Broadcasting and Communications signboard (provided by the Broadcasting and Communications Review Board)

The Korea Communications Standards Commission decided on the 17th to impose a legal sanction of 'caution' on the JTBC entertainment program 'Knowing Brother', which aired scenes of participants playing the 'Pokémon Go' game for a considerable time.

The program, which aired on Sept. 21 of last year, showed idol singers and fixed participants playing games outdoors with smartphones and displayed subtitles such as 'Pokémon Go Safari Zone: Incheon currently accepting pre-orders.' A complaint was raised stating, "It was uncomfortable to watch a specific game displayed in an entertainment program frequently watched by children for about 35 minutes due to forced gameplay and rules made up for it."

The commission noted, "The issue of revealing specific products in advertisements that overtly opposed indirect advertising (PPL) is serious."

The commission also decided to impose a legal sanction of 'caution' on SpoTV for broadcasting audio and subtitles that included phrases like "I have no house in Gangnam" and "I have no luxury on my wrist" in advertisements for the 12-year-old rated mobile game 'No Dragon for Me.'

Additionally, a recommendation for administrative guidance was decided for KBS-2FM, MBC-FM, and SBS-FM due to the abuse of foreign languages such as 'Cracked open a beer,' 'Sad mood,' 'One by one,' 'Artists' wannabe,' and 'Tsar bomb.'

Regarding MBC-FM 'Two O'clock Date with Ahn Young-mi', which mentioned insults, and SBS-FM 'Cultwo Show', where a complaint was raised about the use of similes that evoke male genitalia causing sexual embarrassment, opinions from relevant parties were decided to be collected. It was also decided to receive statements from relevant parties regarding tvN 'Naked World History', which displayed the brand name of a specific furniture company on the chair occupied by contributors during the broadcast.
