Samsung Electronics Galaxy smartphones are expected to enable satellite communication services. As the chipset equipped in the Galaxy S25 series released this year supports satellite communication functions, a U.S. telecommunications company partnered with a satellite communication provider recently unveiled a trial service.
According to reports from GSM Arena and other outlets on the 15th, the Galaxy S25 series satellite emergency messaging service will be provided through Verizon, the top telecommunications company in the U.S. The Galaxy S25 series is powered by Qualcomm's first chipset to support satellite communication, the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
Verizon has also been preparing satellite communication services. In August of last year, it announced a partnership with Skylo, revealing plans to provide satellite consolidation to its subscribers. Additionally, it noted that the Galaxy S25 series will support satellite messages this year.
Competitor Apple has already collaborated with Globalstar to support satellite consolidation from the iPhone 14 series onward. It aims to utilize satellites not only for emergency messages when regular mobile communication services are unavailable but also in ordinary situations.
