Kakao is promoting the spin-off of its portal service Daum.
According to industry sources on the 13th, Kakao Content CIC held a town hall meeting that day to share the spin-off plan with employees. Kakao, which merged with Daum in 2014, explained that it made this decision to secure a breakthrough in response to the intensifying competition in the portal, search, and content sectors.
A Kakao representative noted, "We are preparing for a spin-off to rejuvenate Content CIC," adding, "We plan to secure independence as a fully separate entity to create an environment that allows for various experiments and to establish a rapid and independent decision-making structure to enhance service competitiveness." The company also added, "No concrete details have been decided yet, and we plan to finalize them after the board's approval process."
