LG Electronics launched the 2025 model of its lightweight laptop, "LG Gram," which includes artificial intelligence (AI) features, in January this year. LG Electronics highlighted the conversational AI and other consumer-friendly AI functions as key strengths of the new product.
◇ AI analyzes usage records... conversational search function also added
The standout feature of the 2025 model LG Gram notebook is its AI capability. LG Electronics has incorporated on-device AI, "Gram Chat On-Device." Users can access AI functions based on PC usage records or stored files without a network connection. To implement this, LG Electronics reportedly enhanced performance by equipping the device with the Intel Core Ultra Processor H series (Arrow Lake), achieving a 43% improvement in computing power and a 20% enhancement in graphic processing performance compared to the previous model. In addition to AI capabilities, it is also capable of tasks like video editing and 3D rendering.
In practice, using the notebook allowed AI to automatically assist users by storing data in various situations such as document work or watching YouTube content. To verify whether AI saves user records automatically without cloud access, I wrote an article draft and closed the document without saving it. When I asked the LG Gram's Gram AI, "Where is the document I wrote recently?" it found the document's contents using the time travel function. When I inquired about content I wanted to revisit among recent videos while having the YouTube viewing history feature turned off, it automatically found and informed me.
I was able to request data stored in the notebook through Gram AI. Without having to search through files one by one, the AI analyzes the files stored in the notebook. For example, when I searched based on a file title like "20250304" that I couldn't remember the location of, it found the relevant files.
The notebook comes with OpenAI's GPT-4 Omni, allowing access to an "AI assistant" feature. LG Electronics will provide a paid GPT-4 Omni-based service free for one year to customers who purchase the 2025 model LG Gram. The "Gram Chat Cloud" offered can integrate with Google Calendar, email, and other services. For instance, if a schedule is confirmed with someone through email, it will automatically update the information in Google Calendar.
◇ Weight and battery life pass... price is a concern
The usability regarding weight was also at a satisfactory level. The body weight of the 16-inch LG Gram Pro is about 1199g. The models equipped with NVIDIA's external graphics card GeForce RTX4050 weigh around 1359g. This is nearly 400g lighter than the Samsung Electronics Galaxy Book series of the same size.
Battery life was also satisfactory. There were concerns that the high-performance AI features might quickly drain the battery, but it was possible to use it for over 10 hours without a power connection when fully charged. The AI analyzes usage patterns to slow down charging during periods of extended power connection, thus extending battery life.
However, the price is somewhat burdensome. Currently, the product price listed on LG Electronics' official site is in the range of 3.1 million won (about 2.74 million won for members) for the 16-inch (Intel Core Ultra 7) model. Compared to similar models from competitors like Samsung Electronics and Asus selling for under 2.5 million won, it is somewhat expensive. This price may be a concern for users who primarily focus on document work or content viewing.
