On the 4th, Naver Webtoon announced that it will officially sponsor the 'Lee Hyun-se Comic Creation Camp (hereafter referred to as the Creation Camp)' again this year, continuing its efforts to discover amateur webtoon writers.
The Creation Camp began in 2001 as 'Hell Camp,' which was planned by writer Lee Du-ho, a professor at Sejong University at the time, to allow students to immerse themselves in creation. Since 2014, it has expanded to target university students nationwide with the support of Naver Webtoon, and has established itself as a representative domestic webtoon creation mentoring program hosted by writer Lee Hyun-se.
Naver Webtoon has sponsored the Creation Camp for the 9th time this year. Various webtoon writers, including Im Ri-na, the writer of 'Killer Badro,' Jo Hyun-a, the writer of 'Letter of Yeon,' and Yu Gi, the writer of 'Fatal for Those Without Real Estate,' have gone through the Creation Camp.
The Creation Camp selects a total of over 100 participants, including current and returning university students and Naver Webtoon Best Challengers. The entire participation fee is covered by Naver Webtoon. Participants will immerse themselves in creation for 10 nights and 11 days and will complete a single work. Prominent domestic webtoon artists, including Lee Hyun-se and Lee Du-ho, will participate as mentors, sharing their know-how on work creation and serialization while providing real-time mentoring.
Applications for participation can be submitted online until April 11, and further details can be found on the announcement section of the Naver Webtoon website. The Creation Camp will be held from June 30 to July 10 at the KOBACO Training Center in Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province.
During the camp period, an exhibition will showcase the works completed by participants to industry professionals in the webtoon and comic sectors, and the works that receive excellent evaluations will be serialized in Naver Webtoon’s short story collection.
Lee Jeong-geun, Deputy Minister of Naver Webtoon for Korean webtoons, noted, "I am happy to help aspiring writers realize their dreams through sponsoring the Creation Camp," and said, "We will provide various opportunities to support the discovery and growth of talented writers who will lead the future of Korean webtoons."
Lee Hyun-se stated, "We will develop this into a representative domestic creation camp that can provide practical help throughout the entire creation process for amateur writers in collaboration with Naver Webtoon."
