Ryu Young-sang, president of SK Telecom, visited the Samsung Electronics exhibition booth at the world's largest mobile exhibition, Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, to directly check the extended reality (XR) headset 'Project Infinity.' Nah Tae-moon, president of Samsung Electronics' Mobile Experience (MX), explained to Ryu that there are plans to launch an XR device in the form of glasses.
On 3rd (local time), Ryu visited the Samsung Electronics booth located at Hall 3 of Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, Spain, where MWC 2025 is being held, and explored the features of Galaxy AI and the XR headset 'Project Infinity' for 20 minutes. After checking the physical model of 'Project Infinity,' Ryu asked Nah, "Are you considering evolving towards glasses?" Nah responded, "We are indeed considering evolving towards glasses."
Ryu asked Nah whether it is possible to move while wearing Project Infinity. Nah explained, "There is, in principle, a see-through function that allows recognition of surrounding objects, but I do not recommend it." When Ryu inquired, "Is there a communication chip implemented in the XR headset?" Nah stated, "Currently, it operates based on Wi-Fi, and you can use the communication function when synchronized with a mobile device from outside."
Ryu also checked the 'Now Brief' feature of Galaxy AI. Now Brief is a feature that summarizes daily information such as weather and schedules in a customized manner. When Ryu asked, "Was this technology developed entirely in partnership with Google?" Nah replied, "Yes. It is applied to Samsung's self-developed app and the Google app, and it will later expand to third-party apps."
When Ryu asked, "Is this technology on-device or cloud-based?" Nah replied, "We mix cloud and on-device technologies depending on the situation." When Ryu inquired, "Is there any difficulty in using both technologies simultaneously?" Nah stated, "When high performance is needed, cloud technology must be utilized, and as the performance of on-device related hardware improves in the future, coverage will expand."
Ryu examined the 'AI Eraser' feature of Galaxy AI, which removes unnecessary tools from photos, and responded positively, saying, "It turned out well."
After checking the feature of the Galaxy Watch that manages sleep quality, Ryu remarked, "I didn't know the watch could manage sleep."
Before visiting the Samsung Electronics booth, Ryu held a general meeting with global telecom AI alliance (GTAA) affiliates such as Deutsche Telekom, SoftBank, and Singtel at the booth of the Middle Eastern telecommunications company e&. After the visit to the Samsung Electronics booth, Ryu met with Meta representatives to discuss AI-related collaborations.
