Han Kwon-hwan, vice president of SK hynix's HBM convergence technology, said on the 26th, "The 5th generation high bandwidth memory (HBM) product ‘HBM3E 12-layer,’ which will be primarily produced this year, has a higher process technology difficulty than ‘HBM3E 8-layer.’ He noted, ‘As the next-generation HBM products evolve, the technical challenges will increase more.'
On that day, Vice President Han said in an interview with the SK hynix newsroom, "In order to maintain a leading position in the HBM market, we must not only have technical capabilities but also be able to provide the best products to customers on time." He further stated, "This year’s most important task is to respond stably to the growing demand for high bandwidth memory (HBM) and to solidly prepare for the technological requirements for mass production of the next-generation HBM."
Vice President Han, who joined SK hynix in 2002 and has led the development and mass production of all generations of HBM products in the advanced packaging development department, was appointed as a new executive in 2025 at the end of last year. He is expected to oversee the HBM convergence technology organization, improving product manufacturability, and establishing a new technological foundation for a smooth transition to the next-generation HBM.
Vice President Han particularly noted that unexpected variables could arise during the process of rapidly increasing product development and production volume. The HBM convergence technology organization plans to focus on anticipating these variables and preparing response strategies.
Vice President Han stated, "It has become more important not just to increase production volume, but to establish an efficient operational system," and added, "We will enhance the flexibility of our production lines and strengthen cooperation with customers to maximize our HBM competitiveness."
