On the 24th, Google Korea opened the '2025 Digital Responsibility Committee' and began discussions for responsible digital innovation and the creation of a sustainable ecosystem, the company announced on the 26th.
The committee was launched in 2024 as part of efforts to create a responsible digital ecosystem in Korean society, operating 'Responsible AI Forum,' 'YouTube Open Forum,' and 'App Ecosystem Forum' to address key issues in the digital ecosystem such as artificial intelligence (AI), content, and the app and gaming industries.
This year's second-term committee consists of 43 experts from various fields, including IT and technology, law, media and content, policy, and consumer protection, and plans to expand cooperation among forums for more in-depth discussions. Additionally, forums will be held in connection with Google's various initiatives, such as the YouTube 'Just a Moment' campaign and the Google Play 'Gateway Program,' to seek responsible practices suitable for the domestic digital environment. The committee will also strengthen exchanges with industry stakeholders and policymakers to support discussions that can lead to actual policy and industry environment improvements.
The App Ecosystem Forum under the committee includes 14 experts from various fields, with Cho Chang-hwan, a professor at Yonsei University, serving as chair. Now in its fifth term, the forum will address topics such as 'Cross-platform trends,' 'Global expansion of K-entertainment apps,' and 'Innovation in app ecosystems utilizing AI technology.'
The Responsible AI Forum includes 14 experts, including Choi Jae-sik from KAIST, discussing topics related to AI regulation and fundamental law, such as 'Koh Young Technology,' and 'AI impact assessment.' The YouTube Open Forum includes 15 experts, including Hwang Yong-seok, a professor at Konkuk University, and will multifacetedly discuss the latest issues in the content industry, such as 'Creator economy' and 'Digital literacy.'
Professor Hwang Yong-seok noted, 'YouTube plays a crucial role in the global spread of K-content, and to sustainably develop this, a healthy media ecosystem is necessary,' adding, 'we will explore desirable development directions together with the committee.'
Kim Kyung-hoon, CEO of Google Korea, stated, 'It is meaningful to continue discussions for the creation of a responsible digital ecosystem with various experts through the Digital Responsibility Committee' and 'I will actively listen to the opinions of experts from all sectors and think about practical measures for a healthy digital environment.'
