Dating application Tinder announced on the 24th that it is adding new categories to the 'Explore' tab to help singles find connections that meet their goals. This update is expected to enable singles using Tinder to discover various types of relationships, including serious connections and new friendships.
The Explore tab is a personalized space that categorizes user profiles based on specific interests. It offers categories based on interests such as 'binge-watching Netflix,' 'coffee lovers,' and 'nature,' as well as spontaneous meeting categories like 'Want to meet today?' According to Tinder's 2024 'Year in Swipe™' report, the 'Loud Looking' trend, where users express their desires honestly, is becoming prominent, and the new categories in the Explore tab help users find connections with clear criteria.
Users can navigate to the second tab, 'Explore,' in the Tinder app and select a category that matches their dating goals to immediately browse profiles of other users with the same objectives. The update to the Explore tab includes new categories like 'serious relationships,' which clearly express users' purposes and is expected to assist in finding compatible partners.
In particular, the 'serious relationships' category is designed for users seeking long-term connections, making it easier for them to connect with like-minded individuals. To qualify for this category, users must complete their self-introduction and upload at least four photos while selecting 'serious dating' under 'the relationship I seek.'
In a recent global survey by Tinder, 69% of singles reported that they are looking for serious relationships, with 'marriage partners (41%),' 'long-term dating (39%),' and 'clear intention relationships (27%)' following closely behind, indicating that the 'serious relationships' category is likely to attract considerable interest from users.
This update is part of Tinder's core strategy to personalize and enhance the user experience. Tinder aims to invest in product improvements and provide users with more autonomy, customized curation settings, and refined filtering for better matching.
Vivek Patel, Tinder's vice president of product, noted, "The swipe experience is part of dating, and many singles want to connect with partners who share similar dating goals. The categories in the Explore tab reduce the time spent guessing others' intentions and enable each user to have meetings aligned with their intentions, such as serious relationships."
