Apple's artificial intelligence (AI) system 'Apple Intelligence' will be available in Korean. Support for Korean has been added through the developer version iOS 18.4 update. The official operating system for general users, not the developer version, is expected to be released as early as March.
According to industry sources on the 23rd, Apple has added support for eight languages, including Korean, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, simplified Chinese, French, German, and Italian, in the iOS 18.4 update. It explained that it also newly supports localized English for India and Singapore.
The Korean version of Apple Intelligence will be available on all Apple devices, including iPhones, iPads, and Macs, after this software update. Apple Intelligence was officially released last September with the iPhone 16 series but had only been available in English-speaking countries for nearly six months since its launch. The first update only allowed the use of American English, and updates at the end of last year expanded it to include local standard English from English-speaking countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.
About six months after the release of the AI iPhone and Apple Intelligence, major languages including Korean have become available. However, it is expected that not all features of Apple Intelligence will be available in Korean.
In this OS update, Korean will only be applied to specific features of Apple Intelligence, including the writing tool, the cleanup function in the Photos app, mail smart replies, priority notifications, improvements to Siri's voice recognition and contextual understanding, integration with ChatGPT, and the visual intelligence feature utilizing the camera control function of the iPhone 16 series.
The writing feature automatically rewrites, proofreads, and summarizes text. Previously, this feature was only available in English, but it is expected that natural proofreading and summarization will now be possible in Korean.
The Siri upgrade, which has received the most attention since the launch of Apple Intelligence, will also support Korean. Siri, combined with Apple Intelligence, will understand the content on the screen and perform necessary actions with the user's consent, allowing conversations with Siri through text and voice anytime. It is also possible to connect to OpenAI's ChatGPT through Siri.
