LG Display announced on the 18th that it will begin full-scale mass production of the world's highest resolution organic light-emitting diode (OLED) monitor panel.

LG Display is embarking on mass production of a 45-inch gaming OLED panel with 5K2K resolution. LG Display explained that this product has the highest levels of key specifications for gaming monitors, including resolution, refresh rate, and response time.

Resolution refers to the number of pixels that make up the screen. The higher the resolution, the more precisely video and images are represented. The 5K2K resolution (5120×2160) features approximately 11 million pixels. This is over five times more than FHD (1920×1080) and about 1.3 times more than UHD (4K/3840×2160). Monitors for professionals, such as graphic designers or video editors, generally have UHD resolution, where accuracy and detail are paramount.

The luminance is also at the highest level among OLED monitors. The LG Display 5K2K 45-inch gaming OLED panel achieved a maximum brightness of 1300 nits. Higher luminance enhances contrast, delivering a three-dimensional effect that resembles what the human eye perceives. It uses a polarizer designed specifically for gaming monitors, which minimizes glare and light reflection, enabling perfect blacks in any environment.

The LG Display 5K2K 45-inch gaming OLED panel incorporates LG Display's proprietary technology, 'DFR.' This technology allows users to choose between high refresh rate mode (FHD 330Hz) and high-resolution mode (5K2K 165Hz) depending on the content.

By selecting the high refresh rate mode, users can enjoy fast-paced games like First-Person Shooter (FPS) or racing at a smooth 330Hz, while choosing the high-resolution mode allows for experiencing ultra-high-definition 5K2K graphics in a variety of content, including games and movies.

Unlike liquid crystal display (LCD) panels, which require backlighting, LG Display's gaming OLED panels emit light from each individual pixel, achieving perfect blacks and immersive image quality. The amount of harmful blue light emitted is half that of LCDs, and there is no screen flickering that can cause headaches, making it less impactful on the body even during prolonged use.

LG Display aims to target the high-end gaming display market with a full lineup of gaming OLED panels ranging from 27 inches to 31.5, 34, 39, and 45 inches, rapidly advancing with proprietary technology.

Kang Won-seok, head of large product planning at LG Display, noted, 'We will provide all the values that customers desire in gaming monitors, including image quality, form factor, and refresh rate.'
