On the 17th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea eSports Association (KeSPA) announced the launch of the 'eSports regional league (tentative name)' within this year.
The eSports regional league is a newly established league under the government's comprehensive plan to promote the gaming industry from 2024 to 2028 announced last year, aimed at revitalizing the local eSports ecosystem. Its goal is to foster the establishment of local franchise teams and build a regional eSports ecosystem through regular league operations using local eSports venues.
This year's league games have been selected as ▲PUBG Mobile (KRAFTON) ▲Eternal Return (Nimble Neuron) ▲FC Mobile (Nexon Korea), totaling three titles.
Matches will be held from May to August at online and local eSports venues. The Eternal Return title will continue until October. This will be operated separately from the previously held President's Cup amateur eSports tournament (KeG).
Local governments, local sports organizations, and regional public agencies can apply to participate in this league. When establishing local franchise teams, a portion of the operating expenses will be supported for a maximum of four years. The association plans to hold an explanatory meeting for local governments and related agencies on the 24th, accept applications in March, and select the supported teams in April.
