Encored, an AI-based energy analysis and management corporation led by John Choe, announced on the 13th that it has secured a site for a massive data center requiring gigawatt (greater than 1 GW) power in partnership with SFR, a U.S. AI data center investment company, and plans to enter the energy system management and operation business.

Recently, amid the rise of the AI revolution, the enormous power consumption issues of data centers have emerged as a pressing concern within the industry, and Encored plans to establish a hybrid energy system that combines nuclear, natural gas, and renewable energy with energy storage systems (ESS), enhancing power supply stability through AI-based energy optimization technology.

Encored also plans to pursue a project utilizing virtual power plants (VPP) to sell electricity to the market during low-consumption hours. A VPP refers to a system that integrates scattered renewable energy generation facilities and ESS in different regions using cloud-based software and operates them like a single power plant.

Encored has experience developing or operating more than 14 renewable energy-based microgrids in the U.S., including the Hawaii microgrid. Additionally, the Encored VPP platform boasts the largest market share in Korea.

Furthermore, Encored noted that it plans to develop an energy management platform specialized for data centers used for AI training and supply it to overseas markets.
