LG Electronics announced on the 13th that it will showcase its core component technology with AI added to minimize fabric damage and exhibit a lineup of energy-efficient heat pump dryers at the North America's largest kitchen and bath exhibition 'KBIS2025', held in Las Vegas, USA, from the 25th for three days (local time).
A heat pump dryer uses a compressor to compress refrigerant, circulating dry air internally to dehumidify at low temperatures. Compared to 'vented dryers' that heat air with gas or electric heaters, it consumes less energy and causes less fabric damage, and it does not require drilling a pipe for discharging moisture to the wall.
The heat pump dryer introduced by LG Electronics at this exhibition is the first product equipped with the AI DD motor for the North American market.
The DD motor, which connects the drum and motor directly, has higher durability and enables delicate movements compared to the method of rotating the drum using a belt. In particular, it automatically adjusts the washing and drying intensity according to the weight, humidity, and fabric type by applying AI technology that analyzes these factors.
LG Electronics has elevated the drying level by applying the AI DD motor, which was first installed in washing machines, to dryers as the first in the industry since last year. It delicately controls the speed at which the drum moves, reducing the drop of laundry and improving fabric shrinkage compared to conventional dryers that rotate uniformly in one direction.
Additionally, by analyzing the humidity and current within the drying drum, it optimizes the drying process based on the type and weight of the fabric, thereby reducing drying time and minimizing fabric damage.
Meanwhile, LG Electronics applied a dual inverter heat pump with two cylinders across the entire lineup of heat pump dryers being exhibited this time. The dual cylinder method improves drying performance and energy efficiency compared to single cylinder systems due to better refrigerant compression and circulation efficiency.
LG Electronics commercialized the heat pump dryer with a dual inverter for the first time in the world in 2017. After launching the dual inverter dryer in the North American market in 2021 as the first in the industry, it has expanded the lineup to include integrated washing and drying machines such as wash towers and wash combos.
Recognized for its high efficiency, it was selected as the number one appliance brand in the Green Builder Sustainability Brand Index announced by the environmental building media 'Green Builder Media' for 2023-2024.
Kwak Do-young, head of the Living Solutions Business Division at LG Electronics (vice president), said, "We will solidify our premium leadership in the North American market by leading with a heat pump dryer that combines drying performance and energy efficiency."
