“For the past year, Telechips has been collaborating with Wind River to apply Wind River's software solutions to some products and is in mass production. The company plans to gradually expand its cooperation from products aimed at enhancing the security of software-defined vehicles (SDV) to advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics.”
On the 11th, Telechips CEO Lee Jang-kyu said this at a press conference held at Telechips' headquarters in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. On that day, Telechips signed a strategic partnership with global software company Wind River. The conference was attended by Lee, Jay Bellissimo, President of Wind River, and Darryl Jordan Smith, Chief Revenue Officer of Wind River, who announced future collaboration plans.
Wind River develops and supplies software and cloud systems necessary for aerospace, railways, defense, and automotive to more than 1,000 corporations worldwide. Its 'VxWorks' operating system (OS) is the most widely used OS globally. In 2009, it was acquired by Intel for $884 million, and in 2022, it was resold to autonomous driving technology developer Aptiv for $4.3 billion. Aptiv supplies autonomous driving systems to companies including Hyundai Motor, Volkswagen, Stellantis, and GM.
President Bellissimo noted, “Wind River is collaborating not only with Telechips but also with global semiconductor corporations such as Samsung Electronics, NXP, Intel, and AMD,” adding, “We will strengthen our collaboration with Telechips so that Wind River's software platform can be commercialized more in the automotive semiconductor market.”
Telechips and Wind River plan to jointly develop a system-on-chip (SoC) for operating SDVs and the supporting software platform (SDK) based on strategic cooperation. Through this, they aim to expand collaboration across all fields of smart mobility, from in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) to ADAS and digital cockpits.
Lee stated that the first area of cooperation will focus on enhancing security through software. He said, “We are already conducting collaboration related to security,” and added, “We are planning to expand the cooperation between the two corporations through IVI, networking, ADAS, and AI solutions.”
He further added, “Security solutions through collaboration with Wind River are already being applied to products currently in mass production,” and, “Customers using this can utilize the solutions for 10 to 15 years.”
The 'Helix virtualization platform' owned by Wind River is a solution that can run multiple OSs simultaneously within a single SoC, allowing for the separation and utilization of OSs to ensure both security and stability. President Bellissimo stated, “The partnership with Telechips is expected to provide a reliable development environment for automotive customers,” and, “A secure SoC could become a medium to trigger innovation in the SDV market.”
Lee mentioned, “Wind River has business experience across various industries, including defense, aerospace, automotive, and healthcare,” and added, “We plan to push forward to expand into businesses such as robotics, in addition to automotive semiconductors.”
