Apple, which is known to be developing home robots, has reportedly increased hiring for robotics engineers, Bloomberg News reported on the 9th.
During the past few weeks, Apple has posted several job vacancies to hire robotics experts. In the job postings, Apple noted, "As a member of the team, you will have the opportunity to work with a small group of highly skilled engineers and scientists to bring new experiences to Apple products."
In February 2025, Apple shifted from developing autonomous electric vehicles to focusing on home robot development. The robotics team is led by Kevin Lynch, vice president of Apple’s institutional sector, and in August of last year, experts were recruited from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, often referred to as Israel's MIT. Apple is currently in the early research phase of robot development, and the group is reported to be working on at least two robot projects.
One is a mobile robot that follows users, and the other is a tabletop home device used on a desk. Additionally, Apple is said to be developing a "smart home hub" that controls home systems, such as home security and environmental control. Apple plans to release its tabletop robot by 2027.
Recently, the development status of the tabletop robot being developed by Apple has been revealed. This robot shows various expressions similar to a human. The media reported that Apple's tabletop robot, slated for release in 2027, is likely to be a product closer to a HomePod smart speaker with a screen attached to the robot's limbs, but it remains to be seen what features Apple will include to appeal to consumers through this robot.
