Samsung Electronics is embarking on an expansion of the artificial intelligence (AI) smart modular construction market in partnership with Yuchang E&C, the largest modular construction manufacturer in Korea.
On the 6th, Samsung Electronics announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Yuchang E&C at the Yuchang E&C factory in Cheonan, and they agreed to collaborate on the development of AI smart modular construction products and securing market leadership.
Yuchang E&C started the modular construction business in 2003, becoming the first in Korea to do so, and it has been presenting a variety of modular buildings, including residential, educational, workplace, and military facilities, based on its leading technology.
Through this agreement, Samsung Electronics plans to apply custom AI solutions provided by 'SmartThings Pro,' as well as AI appliances, including system air conditioners, signage, refrigerators, and washing machines, along with approximately 4,200 types of SmartThings-linked devices to Yuchang E&C's various modular buildings.
SmartThings Pro can connect and manage various devices and systems, including AI appliances such as air conditioners and air purifiers, as well as temperature and motion sensors, doors, smart plugs, lighting, and air conditioning systems.
Samsung Electronics plans to expand its 'Home AI' vision, announced earlier this year at CES 2025, to modular construction. The 'Home AI' vision encompasses creating a comfortable environment like home not only in residences but also in modes of transportation, office spaces, and commercial facilities, thus extending the experience of home.
Samsung Electronics will also expand collaboration related to 'Net Zero Home,' a future-oriented eco-friendly housing form aimed at producing energy at home and using it efficiently to achieve zero carbon emissions, further strengthening its strategy in the modular market.
Lim Seong-taek, vice president of Samsung Electronics' Korea headquarters, noted, 'With Samsung Electronics' AI solutions meeting Yuchang E&C's technology, customers will enjoy differentiated AI experiences in various modular spaces,' adding that 'We will lead the market by presenting new AI-based modular spaces.'
Jo Woo-jae, CEO of Yuchang E&C, remarked, 'Through this memorandum of understanding, I expect that we will create new value beyond simply a space through user-centered smart modular solutions' and stated, 'In the future, we will further solidify our leadership in the modular construction market alongside Samsung Electronics' AI solutions.'
