The National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) plans to increase investment in AI computing infrastructure, among other areas, to achieve the national vision of becoming an AI G3 (the three major countries). Projects aimed at promoting AI transformation and the everyday use of AI will also be pursued.
Heo Seong-wook, the NIPA president, explained during the '2025 NIPA Integrated Business Briefing' held on the 6th at the L Tower in Yangjae-dong, Seoul, that "to achieve AI G3 leap, we will significantly expand investments in AI infrastructure, including support for AI computing resources, and focus on the dissemination of everyday AI through the demonstration of AI technology and services, emphasizing support for corporations' overseas expansion and export growth."
NIPA has set three strategic goals: expanding investment in AI infrastructure suitable for AI G3, accelerating AI transformation, and promoting industry-specific regional innovation cases for the everyday use of AI while securing global competitiveness in the digital industry.
To expand investment in AI infrastructure, NIPA plans to comprehensively revamp existing AI ecosystem policy support, expedite the construction of national AI computing infrastructure, and primarily focus on the development and demonstration of 'on-device AI' products and services equipped with domestic AI semiconductors. There will also be new initiatives to localize equipment and software and to create test beds for demonstration to activate the data center industry ecosystem, which is essential for AI development and dissemination.
NIPA aims to accelerate AI-based digital transformation in non-metropolitan areas such as Daegu and Gwangju by linking it with region-specific industries and also to discover new industrial cases of innovation based on AI and software applications across various sectors.
To secure global competitiveness in ICT (Information and Communication Technology), NIPA is actively pursuing collaboration with ASEAN countries and plans to engage in collaborative projects with New York University to enter the Eastern U.S. market, which is a key task this year. New support for overseas demonstrations for AI and digital transformation innovation companies to enhance their global competitiveness will also be initiated.
This year, NIPA plans to execute a budget of 563.4 billion won for its support projects. There will be 68 open call projects this year, of which 10 are new projects. Last year, 1,718 corporations received support from NIPA, with an average support of 166 million won per corporation. Among the corporations that received NIPA support in the past five years, 98 companies achieved listing on the stock market.
