Apple has emerged as the world's leading smartphone manufacturer in 2024, thanks to the effects of the iPhone 16 launch.
According to market research firm Canalys, Apple shipped 77.1 million iPhones in the fourth quarter of last year, achieving a market share of 23%. This figure is about 1 million units less than the same period last year and represents a decline from a market share of 24% in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Samsung Electronics secured the second spot in the market by shipping a total of 51.9 million smartphones in the fourth quarter of 2024, achieving a market share of 16%. Xiaomi, Transsion, and Vivo followed. Both Apple and Samsung saw their growth rates decline compared to the fourth quarter of 2023, while only Xiaomi showed a growth trend. Xiaomi shipped 42.7 million smartphones in the fourth quarter of last year, increasing its shipment by 2 million units compared to the same quarter last year.
The most sold smartphone model last year was the iPhone 15, followed by the iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro Max, Galaxy A15, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, Galaxy A15 5G, Galaxy S24 Ultra, and iPhone 13.
Global smartphone shipments are projected to reach 1.22 billion units in 2024, growing approximately 7% compared to the previous year.
