Sam Altman, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of OpenAI, is set to visit South Korea on the 4th, and it is reported that OpenAI and Kakao are expected to announce their plans for artificial intelligence (AI) collaboration.
According to the industry on the 3rd, Jeongshin A, CEO of Kakao, will meet with CEO Altman in Seoul on the 4th. It is said that this meeting will officially formalize the AI business collaboration between the two companies. The memorandum of understanding between the two has already been completed, and it is also reported that CEO Altman will appear at Kakao's 'Media Day' event, where the company's AI business direction for this year will be announced.
Kakao unveiled its own AI service 'Kanana' last year and announced its full launch this year. Kanana will operate as a separate application (app) rather than as part of KakaoTalk, and it is a messenger service that allows users to utilize a personal AI assistant. Kakao has stated its strategy to select various already developed AI models for Kanana instead of developing its own super-large language model (LLM). If the two companies collaborate, OpenAI's models are expected to be utilized in Kanana.
The purpose of CEO Altman's visit is reported to be attendance at the developer conference 'OpenAI Builder Lab Seoul,' hosted by OpenAI, which will be held at The Plaza Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul. It is said that over 100 CEOs and chief technology officers (CTOs) from domestic AI corporations have been invited to the event on an undisclosed basis.
