Chinese technology company Alibaba claimed it has developed an artificial intelligence (AI) model that surpasses OpenAI's GPT-4o and DeepSeek-V3.

Alibaba Cloud announced on the 29th through its social media official account that it has launched a new AI model, "Qwen 2.5-Max." Regarding the performance of the new AI model, it stated that it "surpasses (OpenAI's) GPT-4o and DeepSeek-V3, and (Meta's) LLaMA-3.1-405B in nearly every area."

Amidst the global upheaval caused by the AI model released by Chinese startup DeepSeek, competition among AI models in China is also intensifying. DeepSeek-V2, launched in May last year, offered an unprecedented low price of 1 yuan (approximately 200 won) per 1 million tokens for open source. In response, Alibaba slashed the prices of its models by up to 97%, with other Chinese big technology corporations like Baidu and Tencent also joining the competition.

In this context, DeepSeek released a new AI model recently on the 10th that rivals ChatGPT without using high-performance chips. DeepSeek's low-cost high-performance model shocked the U.S. big technology industry, which has poured astronomical expenses into AI development. In the midst of this, Alibaba has unveiled a new AI model, seemingly responding to DeepSeek.

ByteDance, the operator of TikTok, also recently announced an update to its flagship AI model, claiming that the new model outperforms the U.S. OpenAI model.
