Kim Gi-hwan, vice president and head of the Immersive Solution development team at Samsung Electronics' Mobile Experience (MX) division, noted during a press briefing on the new XR device, 'Project Infinite (hereafter Infinite),' scheduled for release within the year, held on the 22nd at the Westin Hotel in San Jose, California.
Kim noted, "Samsung Electronics has secured a unique position to provide an immersive XR experience based on its hardware expertise, deep understanding of the mobile environment, and an extensive Galaxy ecosystem built over many years. Just as the 'Wear OS' that both companies developed together from the platform stage for the Galaxy Watch series has achieved great success, Android XR is expected to be another success story."
Kim stated that the Infinite will feature an AI-based conversational user interface, changing the interaction between users and XR devices to a conversational format. He mentioned, "Users of Infinite will be able to interact naturally with Google's generative AI assistant 'Gemini' integrated into the Android XR platform." He added, "Similar to the Galaxy S25, 'multimodal AI' (AI technology that analyzes various forms of data simultaneously, such as text, images, and audio) is also expected to be applied to Infinite, allowing users to interact with external and virtual realities through various senses."
Kim said that Infinite is being promoted not simply as an XR device or gaming console, but as a part of the vast Galaxy AI ecosystem. He mentioned plans to expand the connection experience between various devices and emphasized that development is focused on the synergy between XR devices and smartphones. He also added, "Through open collaboration with Google, we aim to enhance the (Android XR) scalability and secure various third-party apps and service content, thereby expanding the Android XR platform."
Kim explained the reason for producing Infinite in the headset form factor. He stated, "To provide a comfortable user experience even during long periods of wear, we optimized the design through large-scale data analysis of various head shapes and determined that a headset form factor would deliver the richest user experience."
Infinite was first unveiled to the public through a teaser video at the 'Galaxy S25 2025' Unpacked event. Note Moon, president of Samsung Electronics' MX division, only mentioned that it is scheduled for release within the year, without disclosing detailed specifications or a specific release schedule.
