Samsung Electronics surprised the public by unveiling a prototype of a Galaxy smartphone with a reduced thickness.
On the 22nd (local time), Samsung Electronics revealed images of the Galaxy Slim smartphone and the product name 'Galaxy S25 Edge' through a teaser video that started with the introduction, 'the show is not over yet,' at the 'Galaxy S25 Unpacked 2025' event held at the SAP Center in San Jose, California.
On that day, after the Unpacked event, Samsung briefly exhibited the physical Galaxy S25 Edge in the experience zone, but visitors were not allowed to touch or interact with it. It was confirmed that the thickness of the exterior has been reduced compared to existing products, and two cameras were installed on the back.
Specific specifications such as the product's side thickness size were not disclosed. The industry estimates that the thickness is likely in the 6mm range. It is interpreted that reducing the number of rear cameras is a choice made to keep the product's thickness slim.
The release schedule for the Galaxy S25 Edge is undecided, but there are speculations that it is expected to launch within the year due to the number '25' attached to its name. The industry believes it is highly likely to be officially introduced during the Galaxy Z Fold Unpacked event in the second half of the year.
On that day, Roh Tae-moon, head of Samsung Electronics' Mobile Experience (MX) Division, noted, 'Everything shown here today signifies the beginning of a new reality.'
