The Personal Information Protection Commission (hereinafter referred to as the Commission) announced on the 22nd that the processing performance of the 'Eraser Service' it operates has exceeded a cumulative total of 26,788 cases as of the end of 2024. Last year, the number of cases processed was 15,975, which is an increase of about 1.5 times compared to the 10,813 cases in 2023.
Launched in April 2023, the 'Eraser Service' is a service that assists in the deletion and blind processing of posts that include personal information posted online during childhood. In 2024, the eligibility criteria for support will be expanded, with the proposed date of post creation changed from under 18 years old to under 19 years old, and the application age limit shifted from under 25 years old to under 30 years old.
Last year, the age group of applicants was predominantly high school students (41%), followed by middle school students (34%) and adults under 24 years old (14%). The most requests for post deletions came from TikTok (35.9%), YouTube (22.1%), and Instagram (16.3%). Notably, TikTok saw requests increase by about three times compared to 2023, recording 5,617 cases.
According to a satisfaction survey conducted by the Commission, user satisfaction with the Eraser Service rose from 80 and 85 points in 2023 to 87 and 90 points in 2024.
Yang Cheong-sam, Director of the Personal Information Policy Bureau, noted that "the Eraser Service is a project aimed at supporting the self-determination rights of children and adolescents regarding their personal information," and added, "We will strive to enhance service quality and expand promotion to ensure that anyone can easily use it."
