LG Uplus launched the 'premium safe compensation plan' on the 22nd, which strengthens security features and provides compensation in case of damages during service use, making it the first of its kind in South Korea.
The newly launched premium safe compensation plan features enhanced security from the 'premium safe plan' released in 2023 and provides compensation in the event of damage during service use. The plan is available in three types: 100M, 500M, and 1G.
The premium safe compensation plan enhances security features not only by blocking suspicious sites that distribute malicious codes that physically damage devices, such as distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks and ransomware, but also protects against smishing, phishing, and vishing that could lead to personal information breaches and financial damages. It blocks URLs suspected of causing damage in cooperation with the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), the Korean National Police Agency, and security companies.
Security services are applied not only for wired but also for wireless (Wi-Fi) internet usage. For example, the mobile phones connected to the Wi-Fi of this product are blocked from accessing harmful site URLs received via text messages or Kakao.
LG Uplus provides compensation for customers who suffer damages due to smishing, phishing, or hacking while using the premium safe compensation plan. Customers subscribed to a plan of 500M or more can receive compensation up to 3 million won once a year in the event of monetary damage due to personal information theft or financial fraud. Customers on the 1G plan can receive support for repair costs up to 500,000 won once a year if their PC or laptop breaks due to damage.
Additionally, customers on the 1G plan can utilize the 'PC additional connection service,' allowing internet access from up to three PCs with one line.
The usage fees for the premium safe compensation plan by product type are as follows: 100M is 27,500 won per month, 500M is 34,100 won per month, and 1G is 39,600 won per month, with a 3-year contract and IPTV combination.
In the future, LG Uplus plans to launch a 2.5G speed product as soon as the Wi-Fi 7 router is released in the first quarter. The Wi-Fi 7 router is said to be over four times faster than the existing 1.2Gbps, with a speed of 5.7Gbps.
Oh In-ho, the executive director of home business at LG Uplus, said, 'To ensure that customers can use the internet with peace of mind, we have further strengthened security services and added compensation plans to support potential damages.' He noted, 'We will continue to discover and provide necessary services for customers in each household along with internet services, creating a differentiated customer experience.'
