SK hynix, which recorded the largest performance ever last year, is reported to be in conflict with its labor union over the payment scale of bonuses.
According to the industry on the 22nd, SK hynix proposed a bonus payment plan of 1450% of the monthly base salary to its employees via email on the 21st. The bonus is calculated by adding 1000% for excess profit shares (PS) to a special bonus of 450%. The company operates a system that utilizes 10% of its annual operating profit as a bonus fund.
However, the SK hynix labor union has rebelled, claiming that the bonus scale is insufficient given the record performance. The three unions, including the production workers' union from Icheon and Cheongju and the administrative workers' union, plan to embark on a struggle by forming a 'joint action headquarters'.
The union stated, "We want treatment befitting our record performance. Stop the unilateral payment of PS that none of the 32,000 members agree to immediately," and noted, "If the management who decided on the unilateral payment of PS does not step down, everyone will continue the resignation campaign."
Meanwhile, SK hynix is expected to record an annual operating profit of 23.4 trillion won last year. This is largely due to the significant increase in the supply of high-value-added memory products, such as high-bandwidth memory (HBM).
The previous record for SK hynix's annual operating profit was 20.8 trillion won, set in 2018. At that time, SK hynix paid a total of 1700% in bonuses, combining 1000% for PS, 500% for special contributions, and 200% for productivity incentives.
