SK Telecom announced on the 21st that it will begin concentrated management of mobile communication quality to provide stable services ahead of this year's Lunar New Year holiday.
From the day before the holiday, on the 24th, to the last day of the holiday, on the 30th, SK Telecom will operate a special communication situation room and deploy approximately 1,500 personnel, including specialized staff from subsidiaries, affiliates, and partners, to monitor communication services 24 hours a day. In particular, this year's Lunar New Year holiday will be longer than usual due to the designation of the 27th as a temporary holiday, so preparations will be made even more thoroughly.
SK Telecom plans to strengthen its situation response system by cooperating organically with personnel from subsidiaries such as SK Broadband, SK ONS, and Home & Service, as well as affiliates like SK C&C, with a total of over 10,000 personnel deployed during the holiday.
For this Lunar New Year holiday, SK Telecom has completed the expansion of 5G and LTE base station capacities mainly at major train stations, bus terminals, airports, key tourist spots, accommodation facilities, and bustling areas. In particular, attention will be paid not only to mobile communication quality in frequently congested areas of highways where localized data traffic increases are expected, but also to the management of services such as A-Data that customers frequently use during their return travels.
SK Telecom predicts that data traffic will increase by about 15% compared to normal on the 29th, the day of the Lunar New Year, reaching its peak for the entire holiday period, and has completed pre-quality checks and service optimization work.
Given the length of this holiday period, SK Telecom has also completed inspections of communication infrastructure in major areas such as highways, national roads, cemetery parks, resorts, and campgrounds, in anticipation of increased family travel.
To support its customers in checking in with family via mobile phones, SK Telecom will provide free video call services for six days during the holiday. It is expected that international roaming for customers traveling abroad will increase by up to 20% compared to normal during the Lunar New Year holiday, and the company plans to provide smooth services through concentrated management.
In terms of security, SK Telecom plans to conduct real-time monitoring of DDoS attacks and hacking attempts, while also concentrating on analyzing its network 24 hours a day to respond immediately in case of any incidents, and will ensure thorough monitoring to block smishing attempting to impersonate government agencies during the holiday.
Yoon Hyung-sik, head of the Infrastructure Operations Division at SK Telecom, noted, "We plan to do our best to manage communication quality so that customers can use telecommunication services with confidence during the long Lunar New Year holiday."
