Apple has recently disabled the news summary notification feature, which faced criticism due to a series of errors.
On the 16th (local time), according to The New York Times (NYT), Apple announced that it would deactivate the news summary notification feature, recognized as a representative artificial intelligence (AI) function, through a software update for developers.
Thus, Apple has suspended a major AI feature known as 'Apple Intelligence' less than six months after its release. The news summary notification feature attracted attention last December for causing an error while relaying news from the BBC.
At that time, the BBC reported on Luigi Manzoni (26), the shooter who killed the CEO of the American health insurance company UnitedHealthcare, and Apple mistakenly conveyed that 'Manzoni shot himself' while summarizing this news.
Apple apologized at the time and stated that it would soon proceed with an update on Apple Intelligence. In addition to deactivating the news summary feature, Apple noted that it would send warning messages to users who had set notifications for other apps to be summarized. The notification feature is still in development and may contain errors.
