IBM will provide artificial intelligence (AI) technology support to the L'Oréal Group.

On the 16th, IBM announced it will utilize its generative AI technology to discover new insights from L'Oréal Group's cosmetics formulation data and collaborate on waste reduction activities through the use of sustainable ingredients.

This is to enhance L'Oréal's research and innovation capabilities by building a customized AI foundation model and improve consumer experiences and product efficacy in the global market, IBM noted. L'Oréal aims to use AI to discover renewable and sustainable ingredients to achieve its goal of using bio-based and circular economy materials by 2030.

The AI model will support new product development, reformulation of existing products, and production optimization through the analysis of numerous formulation data, accelerating the research of over 4,000 L'Oréal Research Institute researchers. IBM Consulting will assist in redesigning L'Oréal's formulation discovery process and help understand the characteristics of renewable ingredients to develop a product line where sustainability and personalization harmonize.

Alessandro Curioni, vice president of IBM, said, "We will support L'Oréal in continuously producing high-quality eco-friendly products and achieving its operational goals through AI."

Stéphane Ortiz from L'Oréal's institutional sector emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating, "We will provide products that enhance sustainability, personalization, and inclusivity through digital transformation."
