LG Uplus received the 'Best Wi-Fi Network Operator Award' from the global consortium 'WBA' involving wireless network operators and equipment manufacturers through the development of Wi-Fi 7 routers.
On Nov. 12, LG Uplus announced that it plans to launch the first Wi-Fi 7 routers utilizing 320 MHz bandwidth in the 6 GHz frequency band within the first quarter of this year. The speed of the Wi-Fi 7 routers is expected to be 5.7 Gbps, which is more than four times faster than the existing routers' speed of 1.2 Gbps.
The previous generation, Wi-Fi 6, uses a maximum bandwidth of 80 MHz in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands, while the newly expected Wi-Fi 7 routers add the 6 GHz band. With a maximum bandwidth expanded to 320 MHz, it is anticipated that network speed and transmission capacity will improve, and latency rates will decrease.
Wi-Fi 7 features multi-link operation (MLO) technology, allowing simultaneous consolidation of two or more frequency bands, ensuring stable service even if the quality of one band deteriorates. LG Uplus added that by applying the '4K-QAM' technology, which supports transmitting more data at once, it can send up to 20% more data than before.
An LG Uplus official noted, 'We are making thorough preparations to provide a proper Wi-Fi 7 service without any setbacks.'
