The Ministry of Science and ICT's Korea Post announced on the 12th that from the 13th to the 4th of next month, a special communication period for the 2025 Lunar New Year will be established for 23 days, and it will enter an emergency duty system to ensure the safe and prompt delivery of mail.

During the special communication period, about 20.26 million parcels are expected to be received nationwide. This amounts to an average of about 1.45 million per day, which is similar to last year’s Lunar New Year. Accordingly, 24 concentrated post offices and 3 logistics centers nationwide will be operated at maximum capacity, and transportation vehicles will be increased by about 33% compared to usual.

Korea Post will implement safety measures to prevent accidents based on weather conditions such as cold waves, heavy snowfall, and icy roads, to ensure a safe working environment for its employees during this period. In particular, it plans to strengthen employee training on suspending operations and rapid evacuation procedures according to the issuance of weather alerts. Additionally, safety inspections of mail machinery, electrical facilities, and vehicles were completed in accordance with safety manuals before the special communication period.

Jo Hae-geun, head of Korea Post, said, "We will do our utmost to safely deliver mail for the Lunar New Year to the public," adding, "Due to a temporary surge in volumes, some mail deliveries may be delayed, so we ask for the public's understanding and cooperation."

Meanwhile, Korea Post urged three key points to ensure that parcels for the Lunar New Year are delivered safely and on time: ▲ Packaging seafood and meat with ice packs; ▲ Repackaging items wrapped in non-woven fabric, Styrofoam, or cloth in paper boxes; and ▲ Accurately writing the postal codes and addresses, and including a reachable phone number.
