Sejong Telecom announced on the 7th that it participated in the 'Self-Communication Network Utilization Demonstration Infrastructure Construction Project' promoted by the Korea Information Society Agency (NIA) as part of the Ubitek consortium, and provided frequency allocation for local governments as the first 5G (fifth-generation mobile communication) specialized network operator.

The 'Self-Communication Network Utilization Demonstration Infrastructure Construction Project' is a key initiative aimed at revitalizing new public services and realizing a sustainable digital local era, supervised by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Information Society Agency (NIA). Since October of last year, Gimcheon City has embarked on constructing intelligent safety AI CCTV infrastructure, wireless base stations at key intersections, and intelligent traffic systems to establish an AI-based smart intersection and safety monitoring system in the Gimcheon Innovation City area. This project is particularly meaningful as it marks the first case of establishing a 5G specialized network among local governments nationwide.

Sejong Telecom concentrated on supporting ultra-high-speed and ultra-low-latency communication services in areas with insufficient communication coverage by providing frequency allocation without additional fiber installation. The core focus is to facilitate smooth data transmission between the target site and the control center by establishing a 5G specialized network in Ansan Park, a major hub in Gimcheon Innovation City. Additionally, it enhances the real-time capability of AI analysis, ensuring stable service provision even as communication terminals expand in the future.

It is expected that the expansion of specialized services based on the 5G specialized network in Gimcheon will also be possible in the future. As a specialized operator with know-how in operating 5G specialized networks, Sejong Telecom is responsible for allocating 5G specialized network frequencies and managing the network for Gimcheon City. The frequency allocation was completed last December, and the network is being stably operated by deploying specialized personnel with wireless qualifications.

Baek Gi-young, GM of Sejong Telecom, said, 'It is an honor to participate in establishing a differentiated service and a leading demonstration case of digital transformation using the essential future infrastructure of the 5G specialized network.' He noted, 'We will contribute to accelerating the realization of a smart society for local governments through sustainable and competitive 5G specialized network services.'
