'From next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) appliances to flying cars soaring through the sky'
Chinese corporations will showcase a range of new products aimed at the global market at the world’s largest IT exhibition, 'CES 2025,' starting on the 7th (local time) in Las Vegas. Hisense and TCL will unveil AI appliances targeting the premium market and their own platforms capable of building smart homes and smart cities. Electric vehicle corporation Xpeng's subsidiary, Xpeng Aero HT, will display a flying car set to launch next year.
According to industry sources on the 5th, Hisense and TCL will set up the largest booths among Chinese corporations and introduce new products related to light-emitting diode (LED) technology, as well as appliances enhanced with AI capabilities and the smart home ecosystem built through these products. In particular, TCL plans to secure a prime location in front of the Samsung Electronics exhibition hall, which is considered a prime spot at CES, just as it did last year.
Following last year, Hisense will also unveil new products related to its 110-inch ultra-light-emitting diode (ULED) TV series this year. Additionally, it plans to reveal a platform that automatically enhances TV picture quality using its self-designed AI chip. Hisense will also introduce a governance platform aimed at building smart cities. Hisense noted, 'In smart cities like Qingdao, China, a platform that optimizes the urban environment in real-time is already in operation, automatically adjusting subway operation times during rush hours and coordinating traffic lights based on pedestrian flow,' adding that it will present its vision of how intelligent systems can operate cities efficiently.
TCL announced it will showcase new products related to QD-mini LED, as well as professional monitors, in-car displays, mobile phones, tablet PCs, smartwatches, and AR glasses. TCL will also unveil a smart home ecosystem optimized for user environments, increasing the energy efficiency of air conditioners, built-in refrigerators, washing machines, and smart locks based on AI.
Having increased their market share primarily with low- to mid-range products, Hisense and TCL are also making strides in the premium market, previously dominated by Korean corporations such as Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics. According to market research firm Counterpoint Research, Hisense and TCL recorded market shares of 24% and 17% respectively in the third quarter of last year (by shipment volume), placing them second and third behind Samsung Electronics.
Xpeng Aero HT will unveil its flying car ahead of next year's launch. Having revealed a prototype flying car concept since 2022, Xpeng Aero HT will display a model that successfully flew this year. Xpeng Aero HT aims to begin mass production of the product next year and start deliveries to customers. The company targets an annual production of 10,000 units, with a price of about 2 million yuan (approximately 400 million won) per unit. The modular flying car land aircraft carrier (LAC) conducted its first public flight last month and has secured over 2,000 pre-orders.
A source in the home appliance industry noted, 'It would be a mistake to think that Chinese corporations will adopt the strategy of quickly imitating Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics products as they did before,' adding that 'With new products and self-developed platforms that have kept the industry on edge being unveiled at global home appliance fairs like CES every year, attention is focused on this event as well.'
