Kakao announced on the 27th that it will collaborate with the Netflix series 'Squid Game' Season 2 to launch a character collaboration.
This collaboration, which features Kakao Friends and the record-breaking Netflix hit 'Squid Game' Season 2, gained significant attention as it unveiled 'Chunhee,' a transformed version of the character Chunshik, on its social media services ahead of the official launch. Notably, Chunshik also participated in the 'Squid Game' Season 2 world premiere event held at the DDP in Seoul on Dec. 9.
On the same day at midnight, Kakao released a brand collaboration video featuring 'Chunhee' through the 'Profile Full View' section of KakaoTalk, announcing the start of the 'Chunshik Game.' Additionally, Kakao plans to sequentially launch game-type content leveraging various services and functions, including Mini emoticons, gift-giving on KakaoTalk, hashtag searches, and talk channels. The video can also be viewed on Kakao Friends' official social media channels, with new content set to be released daily until Jan. 4 to continuously engage users.
Alongside this, collaborative merchandise will also be launched. The goods will include a total of 13 types, featuring 'Chunhee' and 'Player Ryan' dolls, keychain dolls, socks, T-shirts, and decorative stickers, available for purchase at both online and offline Friends Shops, as well as through KakaoTalk's gift-giving feature and Musinsa. All stores, including the Kakao Friends flagship stores in Gangnam and Hongdae, will be newly decorated with this collaboration theme, providing an immersive experience as if customers are participating in the actual game.
Starting today, KakaoTalk's gift-giving feature will host a 'Chunshik Game' event, showcasing 14 collaboration products from 11 brands related to 'Squid Game' Season 2. The exclusive items available only through the gift-giving service include an Instax Mini 12 package, Jeonggwanjang Vitality Booster 3X, Volvic golf ball set, LEGO tumbler gift set, cargo container camping supplies, and Oxford Blocks.
A Kakao representative noted, 'We have prepared a variety of content that encompasses both digital and offline experiences to enable a unique experience of 'Squid Game' Season 2 through KakaoTalk and Kakao Friends.' The representative added, 'Moving forward, Kakao Friends plans to continue expanding its brand's footprint through collaborations with diverse global intellectual properties.'
