LG Electronics announced on the 25th that it will unveil two new concepts of its plant cultivation appliance "Tiuin," which incorporates interior design elements, at the world's largest IT and home appliance exhibition, CES 2025.
The new concepts of LG Tiuin feature a stand lighting design and a bedside table design that includes a Bluetooth speaker, fitting harmoniously into any interior space. This multifunctional product can be used not only for growing plants but also as a mood light or speaker. The stand lighting type of Tiuin serves as an LED light for plant growth during the day and as a subtle mood light at night. The LED light is adjustable in height, allowing users to grow larger plants than what was previously possible with the existing Tiuin and Tiuin Mini.
The bedside table type of Tiuin takes inspiration from a table lamp. It can be placed next to a bed and used as a mood light, while the built-in Bluetooth speaker allows users to enjoy music while observing the plants up close.
The new product comes with a seed kit, and after adding water and nutrients and turning on the light-emitting diode (LED), plants can be easily cultivated. It can hold up to four seed kits at once, allowing for the simultaneous cultivation of various plants. Users can observe the entire process from the germination of the seeds to the growth of the plants, providing everyone the joy of nurturing companion plants.
By linking LG Tiuin with the LG ThinQ app on a smartphone, users can adjust lighting times and brightness and receive notifications when it's time to replenish water. LG Electronics plans to release the stand lighting type of LG Tiuin in the second half of 2025, while the release of the bedside table type is yet to be determined.
The domestic plant cultivation appliance market has seen a significant increase in sales since the COVID-19 pandemic. The Korea Invention Promotion Association's Intellectual Property Assessment Center estimates that the size of the domestic indoor agriculture market, which was 121.6 billion won in 2021, will grow at an average annual rate of 75%, reaching 1.7519 trillion won by 2026.
Following the release of the first plant cultivation appliance, Tiuin, in 2021, and the introduction of the Tiuin Mini, which is sized to fit on desks and dining tables in 2022, LG Electronics plans to continually expand customer choices by introducing new designs after more than three years.
LG Tiuin can be used in various ways in real life, such as "Planterior"—decorating homes with plants, "plant cultivation"—growing herbs or lettuce for consumption, and "horticultural therapy"—cultivating flowers for emotional stability, thus maintaining its popularity.
Jang Young-jo, CEO of LG Electronics Sprout Company, said, "We will continue to discover and enhance differentiated customer experiences unique to LG Tiuin, so customers can enjoy companion plant life more joyfully according to their lifestyles."
